Some of our lucky MECHy's went to the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards at the new ECHO arena in Liverpool, European Capital of Culture 2008, last night and reported back on the star-studded, glitzy event.

With Beyonce Knowles opening the show, the host Katy Perry winning the Best Newcomer Award, Britney back on top getting Best Album Award and Sir Paul McCartney being honoured, in his own home town, with the Ultimate Legend Award from Bono, it was sure to be a good night.

The event ran from 8pm until 11pm, and though he may not have been there in person, even in England, Barack Obama was not far from everyone's thoughts. Sir Paul McCartney thanked Americans for voting him in, Katy Perry wore a yellow dress with his face on it and Kanye West finished his set with his number one duet with Estelle "American Boy" at the end of which they put up a giant picture of Barack Obama with Kanye being quoted when asked why, saying "he is the number one American boy"

All in all a good night with a top tip from Sophie, who attended, to keep an eye on newcomers: 30 Seconds To Mars they seem to be the latest up and coming sound.
